Almost certainly, one of your VGA adaptors is borrowing (sharing) system
RAM. I just checked by looking at my AMD Duron box, which uses only the
onboard display adaptor. The boot screen says 262,144 Kb RAM (which =256
Mb); the BIOS reports 16 Mb VGA shared; and System information says 240
Mb RAM. 240+16=256. We need to see what other reports come in, but I
wouldn't be at all surprised if that were the spanner in the works. It's
OK under 98 (even SE), but XP is a real memory hog, and Xy & XyWin are
very sensitive to video RAM issues.
