No it doesn't. Doesn't *say* anything about the color of "faces".

Imagine that the book is, itself, a computer monitor. How does your book
"display"? Black foreground, white background. How does your actual computer
display (probably)? White foreground, black background.  Try toggling your
computer display into the book's "display mode"! Then all the characters look
like the printout in Appendix E, and like Ascii-1 and 2 on pages 109ff.

Leave it alone, it's correct. Set your PDF foreground (characters) to print
white and your PDF background to be black, if you want (ugh!).
