Re: Mouse under XP

Thank you for the analysis of the mouse problem under XP. What you describe certainly is consistent with the erratic behavior of the mouse that I had noticed.
Since I still prefer to work in a DOS box, I will use a work-around that I
developed -- an older utility that enables one to position the text cursor
with the mouse and to select text with it. It is distributed as MKey or
Mousekey by Gary Chanson. I use it in a batch file that starts
XYWrite. It works, but it is a bit awkward, since anytime a DOS box is
opened in XP, I have to open the properties menu to turn off the Windows
mouse pointer. Then and only then it works. I recall, perhaps
incorrectly, that under Windows 95, it was possible to configure the
settings on the desktop link so that it was not necessary to do this every
time a DOS box was opened.
My work-around is of limited value and I cannot really recommend it, but if
anyone is interested I would be happy to offer a brief description so that
anyone who wants to can set it up.
