Re: LEARNING XPL

>>How do you know if they have a good program?

That's hard to say. Although, if they have at least 8 or so programming
problems for you to do, that would be a start. I guess I'm spoiled since of the
few CIS/DP instructors at the local college, only one turned out to be shall we
say, less than perfect. And I even learned from his class. I guess it's almost
a trial and error approach. I wish all the schools gave as much attention to
acedemic curriculum as they do to sports. If they did we would have a nation of
extremely intelligent people. If you are really determined to learn how to
program I guess you'll find a way. I don't mean that in a bad sense. I just
mean that the more determination one has, the more they look for answers to the
problem. I know that you will find though that once you learn one or two
languages you will find that the rest start to come easier. Logic is pretty
much the same in most languages (there are a few notable exceptions). If you
have a PC at work, it should have come with BASIC. Drag out that BASIC manual
and read through it. Do the examples, type in their sample programs, and try to
figure out how they do what they do. It starts off slow, but gets easier as you
go along.

Also most computer people are a helpful bunch so, ask questions rom the people
you know who are programmers. Most will be happy to help out. Look up local
BBS's and see if any carry the programmers echo. You can ask questions there as
well. Stick to it and you will make it.

No matter where you go, there you are!
