I can see banning "grandmotherly" for that reason. But what do you call your mother's mother. Publications are funny this way. The Wall Street Journal has long banned "shift" for fear the "f" would be dropped. We (Business Week) prohibit the word "tout" fro reasons lost in obscurity.
