Re: Windows 98 compatibility

Someone else who is actually using Win98 may have a more
sophisticated answer to why you get a logon error, but Win98
is really just a glitzily packaged minor upgrade to Win95
OSR2, which I do use, and which posed no problem. Move your
SETTINGS.DFL file to a floppy disk and see if that takes
care of the problem. If so, the problem is there, and you
can get rid of it by installing, say, the first half of the
file, then adding the third quarter, etc., until you have
spotted the problematic line, which you can then get rid of.
If the problem is not in SETTINGS.DFL, disable (with ;*;)
all but the most essential lines in STARTUP.INT and restore
them one at a time.

If the problem still comes up with SETTINGS gone and STARTUP
minimized, I suggest you uninstall the program and reinstall
it from DOS mode (not a DOS window), copying the files into
your XY directory. Installing XyDos always leads to trouble
unless it is done from a clean boot.

Although A.J. Ross suggests remming out the CD-ROM drive,
unless your setup is very different from mine, DOS mode will
not recognize the CD-ROM drive in the first place. I would,
in fact, recommend that if you use a AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS that affects DOS mode, you temporarily rename
them so they don't work.

Cheers,
