A laptop makes sense if you intend to travel with it. Otherwise, go for a stationary (under-the-desk) machine. You'll appreciate not only the bigger monitor, but the keyboard as well. Laptop keyboards are fumbley.
Whether your machine is a laptop or desktop, you attach a monitor and a
keyboard to it. The laptop's monitor and keyboard are just gravy, only for
when traveling.
Think of the laptop as a smaller desktop machine. The only difference is
the desktop allows more access to its innards. But I'm guessing Leslie is
not about to open up a desktop and put in PCI cards. And the laptop allows
PCMCIA cards. Laptops today have everything you'd ever need, already
available as inbuilt or on a port.
