British spelling

Has anyone figured out how to do British or modified-British spelling
with the spell-checker?

I tried using an extensive list of Britishisms in my personal
dictionary, and marking the corresponding Americanisms as incorrect.
Sometimes it seemed to work, and other times it didn't. (My test case
was always "modeled" / "modelled".)

I may be running into memory-space problems with this. What are the
limits?  Is there any way to convert an ASCII word list into a
Mycrolitics-style dictionary?
