Re: USB printers

Has anyone tried a hardware solution for this? I know there are cables to
connect a USB port to a parallel printer. Could one reverse that: get a
set of cables or gender-menders or both so that you ran from the parallel
port of your PC to the USB connection on the printer? That would probably
involve using one or more of those centronics-to-centronics cables used
with printer switchboxes, and I'd recommend they be as short as possible,
because high-speed PCs get "confused" if signals to a printer take too
long. A gender-mender would be better; try ComputerGate or Dalco.
Dick, please do keep us posted: I need a new printer and nothing seems
to offer what I need (fax capability, four separate ink cartridges, DOS
printing--and a price under $200).
Brian: thanks for the lead; will look into it.
