searching through all files

has anyone devised a good way to search through all files in subdrctries
with xy 4 for dos? I can do it by physically typing each subdrctry in at
the command line, but they don't all fit. the + sign that works with the
DIR command doesn't work with the SE command.
also, has anyone opinions on Word for Word vs Wordport for converting xy 4
for dos into MS word files?
