Re: Xy3 under DOS

≪ I, too, am still in the dark ages. And liable to remain there. I have
had no encouragement from this list to upgrade to XyWin. Indeed, I
believe you have probably saved me considerable grief. ≫ --Phil Smith

Phil--DOS still has life left in it but I didn't mean to imply criticism
of xyWin or even Windows, which is quite useful for multitasking dos apps
and indispensable if you need to do any kind graphical work on an 80x86.
It's only lately that xyWin users can safely come out of the closet
around here and they still seem to feel compelled to adopt a certain
apologetic tone. When I ordered xyDos 4 I expected a continuation
of XyQuest business practices; events surrounding the order left me
in culture shock, so when TTG released xyWin I passed. My mistake was
not waiting for xyWin, bypassing Signature 2. Most subscribers seem happy
enough with xyDos 4 and that's fine, but xyW3 suits me better. I shell
out to xyDos 4 when xyW3 can't handle a particular task and look forward
to getting--if and when--Swords, the most disparaged app I know of
except xyWin by people who've never been near it. Swords is
win32Signature of course, but at least with xyWrite roots. First,
however, I must replace my system. Its woeful state--not xyWin or
Windows--is why graphical DOS apps preoccupy me these days.

Come to think of it, this list has a bunch of NYC subscribers:
I plan to put together a barebones K6 system. If you or anyone
you know has had any related experience with Computer Depot
(Canal Street across Sixth Avenue from NotaBene HQ) or a like
operation walkable from the Village, I'd appreciate email about it.
If warranted, I'll post a summary. ... Ciao. --a
