Re: Refresh rates (XyDos in XP Window)

"XyWrite may be writing to video registers or display buffer instead of
using MS-DOS calls." Very, very likely, I would suspect, given 1) that Xy
is written in Assembler; and 2) the history of problems I had back under
Novel DOS with a VGA card (detailed two or three times here, so I shan't
bore the list with it again).
The speed issue with some older programs that Jordon mentions is a real
one. Our town's police and fire radio officer has some old DOS programs
that are used to program the police and fire radios. They will absolutely
NOT run on a Pentium. Nothing to do with the opsys; the serial port
output is just too fast. In fact, they won't run on some Compaq 486s. (So
this guy collects--nay, hoards--386 and 486 PCs, so as to have a supply.)
I don't suppose switching keyboards would do any good? Some modern ones
seem to have everything but the kitchen sink included, and may be souped
up to handle all that? Just a thought.
