It's wise to reconfigure to COM1. I have had more problems, for years and
years, with the ambiguity that physical COM1 (COM2, COM3,...) is not
necessarily the same thing as logical COM1, COM2, etc. In other words, some
drivers and programs treat COM1 as the first comm port which is hooked up,
which could be physical COM2 or COM4. This leads to crazy contradictions and
misnomers, and to hardware failure. One argument for Gwinn's SIO drivers
is
that if no device is attached to physical COM1 etc., then logical COM1 is not
assigned but left empty. Important point: OS/2 does not allow IRQs to be
shared! SOMETIMES you can get away with two devices using the same IRQ if they
aren't active at the same time, but it isn't reliable.
