Are you leaving the settings notebooks open when you shut down OS/2?
If so, try closing them before shutting down. Also, check the
RESTARTOBJECTS line in CONFIG.SYS. If it's set to YES or is missing
(YES is the default), OS/2 will restart any objects that were open
at the last shutdown or reboot. Change it to

SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY

On reboot, OS/2 should start only objects in the Startup folder.

If the problem continues, try the following:

1) Boot OS/2 from a floppy and run CHKDSK /F against the drive where
the seven files are located, until no errors are returned.

2) Reboot OS/2 in the normal way. If the settings notebooks still
automatically open, try this: Close the settings notebooks. Open
each of the seven files in a separate window in XyWrite. Now switch
to the Desktop and delete the objects corresponding to those files.
(That is, open the Drives object, switch to the relevant
subdirectory, right click on each file and choose Delete.) Now go
back to XyWrite and force a SAve-to-disk for each of the files.
Shut down and reboot.

The theory is that the unusual behavior is caused by an error in the
extended attributes for these objects. Fixing the error, or
deleting the objects and their EA's, should make the behavior
disappear.

Since this is not really a XyWrite issue, we had better conduct any
further correspondence off-list.
