Tim's idea is worth trying. I did a further test yesterday and
discovered that converting XY to RTF does not preserve diacritics
(and presumably other characters above ASCII 128). Of course you
can still use it by converting them to some intermediary form
(e.g., u with umlaut to  before exporting, and reconverting
afterward). But that is a lot of trouble. Perhaps someone can let
us know whether WP4.2 passes this test.
