OFF TOPIC: Antivirus software for Windows

I am about to set up a new Windows computer and will want to
install antivirus software. McAfee Virus Scan 5.x has worked
pretty well in the past, but version 6 has completely
defeated me on two separate attempts to install it on
different machines. Any thoughts on the relative merits,
**ease of use** (including installation), etc. of the
current editions of other AV software would be welcome. As
this is largely off topic, off-list replies are in order.

PS. Anyone have any good reasons for installing an OS beyond
Win98SE?
