I don't see a problem with hyphens in "Euro"-style date formats (default DZ).
 In SETTINGS.DFL,

df dz=dd-mm-yyyy

works. Or, to set the default in STARTUP.INT (not sure why you'd want to do
this, though):

BX d dz=dd-mm-yyyyQ2 ;*;

Either way, a simple DA command (without date mask) displays "30-09-2003".
