XyWrite and Ghostscript

I've finally gotten around to installing Ghostscript and Ghostview and
have even gotten it to work. Amazing. It's very nice to be able to
access PS files on the Net and to be able to print them out on my HP
printer.

My next project is to integrate my use of XyWrite with Ghostscript.
For the most part this is for the fun of it, but you never know when
such knowledge might lead to business opportunities here in Japan.

What I'm now trying to achieve is to add some of the infiniType fonts
I have to my XyWrite repertoire, assuming that this is possible. The
approach I'm planning to take is to modify the POST-HP4.PRN file to
add the fonts I want to use, use this printer driver to print-to-file,
and then use Ghostview to print the PS file on my laser printer.

I think I'm pretty clear on how to modify the FA Table and the FP
Table (if it turns out I'm not, I'll ask about this later). Then I
assume I need to add a font definition (FO<) for the fonts I want to
add in the font definition section. What I'm wondering about the
width table. How do I go about determining this information? There
must be a better way than trial and error.

Any comments or advice will be much appreciated. I went back and
reread Annie's comments on XyWrite and Postscript that she posted some
months ago, and I learned something again from doing so. Thanks for
posting that note Annie. I'm finally getting around to doing
something about it.
