In Win2000, if you set up a _network_ printer you can't
select LPT1 etc. The printer must point to a UNC
(\\computername\printername). If you set an LPT port, by
definition it's a _local_ printer attached to the
workstation insofar as Win2000 is concerned.

But the NET USE solution I subsequently posted does the
trick.
