mystery .sav files

I don't often do a DIR of my Xy directory, but on just doing it, I noticed
about 6 screenfulls of mysterious files beginning X739X followed by various
numbers and ending in .SAV. The earliest one, XY39X1, is September 30,
2005. The dates on some of the files are spurious, since 5 of them are
dated in the future (Dec. 29, 2006)
Each file consists of a little bit of XPL code, and the common denominator
thereof is an (illicit?) ≪EX2≫.
I see there is an ≪EX2≫ in the U2 v. 117 I am running (perhaps I
accidentally introduced it) in the HIDE frame, which begins:

XPLeNCODE v2.0
b-gin [UNTITLED]
{{;5HIDE:*,AUTOHIDE}} "Hide" S/G contents in S/G 739 [CLD|RJH
 Rev.2/23/01][cr|lf]{002}{<}IF{<}VA|739{>}<0!{<}VA@739{>}=="{
<}EX2{>}"{>}{<}SV739,{>}{<}EI{>}{<}SX740,@upr({<}VA$FR{>}){>}
{<}SV741,:{>}{<}IF{<}IS740{>}=="AUTOHIDE"{>}
-nd
XPLeNCODE

I do call this frame a lot. Could it be the culprit?

Thanks.
