Yes, that's the way Eudora works too. It almost has to be the way an
indexed database works. Think of library shelves and adding new books. If
the shelves are already packed cheek to jowl, you can't quickly add new
acquisitions in where they ought to be--to do that takes some re-arranging
to make room and end up with no holes, all books touching other books
("Compacting").
