as in manny cases you provided a quick and helpfull answer,

I tested SI and CI and the result is a little weird, c.q.
logical:
the SI always gives as a result an Insert-mode regardless what it
was before
the CI always gives as a result an Overstrike-mode regardless
what it was before

and this leaves me with a new question : how to find all my old
TI's in all my programs?
a question which i will phrase in a new mail
