logon problem

Can someone clue me to the genesis of this sudden annoyance? I'm using Xydos
4.018, with XyWWWeb.u2 loaded, under Windows 98. Normally upon starting up I
am in a Xywrite file I call \gencor. Now I am there but status line demands
I logon. When I do log on, it is not recognized.

(Half hour later) I went into Dos and examined my Xywrite startup.int file.
The logon entry was there but it hadn't ever bothered me, as far back as
Xydos 4.011. I remarked it out, and got into Xy okay, but what happened and
why puzzles me. Thus, this is no longer an emergency, but if it piques your
curiosity, here is some detail.

When (in Dos) I looked at startup.int, each line instead of beginning with BX
began with a space and two extraneous characters, ASCII 130 and 127. And each
line ended with ASCII 130 and 127 instead of Q2. When I look at that file in
Xywrite, it looks normal.

I have (a month) rewired my .kbd file to put frequently used accented
characters using various combinations such as u for u umlaut, but
otherwise the keyboard is pretty normal. I was careful not to mess with key
combinations already assigned to a needed function.

The event that necessitated the shutdown cited above is an intermittent one
that has driven me nuts for several months. I usually have Xy and Britannica
CD running in the background when I go into my ISP (Compuserve 2000) for
e-mail or a web search. Once in a while when I type an M (U or LC) in an
e-mail address or message, I find myself instantly in Windows Explorer and
out of e-mail. The only was I know to cure that is to quit CS, quit out of
whatever else is running, and shut down. (God prosper you, Mr. Klein and
Judge Jackson).

If any interest, any ideas?
