I seem to have started this thread, so maybe I can end it with two
quotes. "Lupus est homo homini [man is a wolf to man]," Plautus; "The
trail of the serpent is over all," my grandmother. But speaking
personally, if I had to be burned at the stake, I'd prefer it to be by
someone who did it out of conviction, however misguided I might consider
that conviction, than out of general bloody-mindedness.
