Re: Xydos to Quark?

1. As far as I know, Quark 4 no longer supports XyWrite.
Quark has told me the old filters should work, but it doesn't
seem likely.

2. I ALWAYS have on both my Mac and PC Quark 3 and
Quark 4. That way I can deal with any problem that arises.

For example, if you had Quark 3 PC, you could import
your XyWrite files straight into a plain Quark document,
and then your client would for certain be able to read that.

NEVERTHELESS, there must be some much simpler
solution. I believe your client's 'tech' (!! ! ! so called ! ! !)
is over-reacting. Of course, Judith, one of the dark problems
in life is that the client is always right, and worse, that
the client's 'tech (be he never so stupid) is always right
incarnate.

May I suggest what is happening? That some idiotic
Mac translation software is muffing up your files.
You might eliminate this by sending your client
files in XTG format. I have some exceedingly
elementary XyWrite to XTG filters that I could
send you if desired, but I imagine others on this
list have much better ones.

XTG language files are very basic, and are all in
lower ASCII, so there should be no problems.
It is described in Quark manuals and in books about
Quark.

I must say, that even with all the problems recently
described on this list, I am not in the least tempted
to give up XyWrite. All the alternatives are just too
dreadful!

Another suggestion: Do XyWrite to RTF. If these
people don't understand that RTF is the best way
of exchanging Word-format files then you know
that you're dealing with technically hopeless people.
But then, I think that was already clear.
