XYWRITE 3.56

The 3.56 upgrade arrived today, and the news is all good. It works as
advertised with Windows 3.0. Better still, the autoreplace feature, though
initially disabled, can be reactivated. I suppose XyQuest can't tell you this
because of its patent problems, but all you have to do is assign AR to the
spacebar (key 57) and any other key you want to trigger an automatic
replacement. The only problem is that you can't easily turn autoreplacement off
if necessary, but you can work around this by assigning a special space to,
say, Alt-57; omit the AR from this key definition, and you'll just enter a
space. Poor Chris: you had to take all the flak, and no doubt you knew the
solution was simple all along. Incidentally, using XyWrite with Windows is a
pleasure. Be sure to use a .pif to bring Xy up full-screen. Alt-Enter then puts
Xy in a window when you want to do something else. So, all of you who squawked
so loudly, give 3.56 a chance. The upgrade is free, after all. And maybe Xy 4.0
will mean that we won't have to switch to Word for Windows. Good support for
the scalable fonts in my LaserJet III would be a major selling point. What
about it, Chris? Will Xy 4.0 rival the new Wordstar in this department? -- Art
