An Xy tip:
A while back I was looking at fancy GUI wordprocessors that have
features allowing one to set up tabs to index files and
instantly jump to items in a table of contents.
I was able to replicate it in Xy/Dos, sort of.
For each working file, I keep a running index at the top. Each
item has an identifying slug word, in all caps. So an entry
might be: Interview with SMITH . (note the extra space before the
period; that's important.)
I've assigned a function key with the following XPL program:
XD DW ≪SV01≫ BC sea /≪pv01≫/XC XD
As I accumulate info in the file, I begin each section with
the appropriate slug word (SMITH, in the example above.)
Then: when I have a big file full of misc. info, I can peruse the
table of contents at the top; when I want to move to a section,
I place the cursor on the capitalized slug word, hit the appropriate
function key, and I'm there.
I can then hit F9 to search for subsequent occurances.
Not very sophisticated, but it works very well, and it's a big
timesaver.
