I think your problem with centering labels is a software problem.
 One problem with the current state of software is massive
overkill. If you want simple label printing, give me your
mailing address and I'll send you a 5- or 6-year-old release of
shareware PC-FILE, which makes it ridiculously easy to do
anything with address lists, and most of the other things
ordinary mortals use databases for. It allows automatic
centering of each address on the label.
