Msg. Responses & ?S: 1

Dear SysOp,

I let my subscr. lapse in 8/92 (suspecting the end of the Co. and the product
to be near at the time -- delighted to have been wrong !), just recently
renewed, and have much catching up to do. Hence the flurry of msg.s to come.
#8073: XyQ> "a 64k buffer reserved for printer file information, including

Do this, when you get a chance. Some of your users may go on using both
products with the HP 4. III+ should not be totally disenfran- chised here,
even if certain compromises are involved. (I imagine that we could still use
drivers for the III -- or even the II -- incl. soft fonts, in the meantime.)

#8098: XyQ> "The unloading of features won't be implemented in any products
XyQ> after XyWrite III+. All Signature and XyWrite 4.0 products have XyQ>
memory management built in, eliminating the need of unloading."

That's probably unfortunate. Besides the fine degree of control we are used
to, in nearly all aspects of the product, you seem to still have much work to
do in the area of memory management. In 3.55, I never seemed to run out of
memory, no matter what I crammed into it. I've been finding it easy to get
memory errors with 4, even though loading far less. (I run 8 meg.s. QEMM is
always loaded, though I wouldn't even attempt to run XY-4 under DV, after all
the problems I had with SIG.) And I've noticed quite a few mem. mgt.
complaints broached here, even if we subtract those in which QEMM, 386MAX, or
task switchers could possibly have some role.

#8099: XyQ> "This means, at minimum a mini menu type file as in Sig to get
access to all features."

In the (prolonged) course of digesting 700K worth of msg.s since I was last
active here, I find no mention of where the MINI.MNU file might be found.
Surely we can't use the one from SIG ? Are we supposed to roll our own? Or
does XY4.MNU, at a relatively svelte 43K, cover all the essentials? This is a
topic that should be treated in considerable detail, be it in an appl. note or
wherever. Personally, I would prefer kbd alternatives to anything that must now
be done via a menu.
