Choosing a virtualization solution

Carl,

Anything goes as VBox is concerned. XP mode is different (MS product
differentiation). On 64-bit, none whatsoever performancewise (VBox).

VirtualPC is an ok product, but perhaps too tied to the platform. VMware
takes over your computer, and thinks there can be no other solutions.
VBox is free, more flexible, and very capable. Great command-line
options, too, for starting and managing (VMware has them, too, no
doubt). Anyway, you want to use hardware-enabled virtualization, and
that means that you must use ONLY ONE such solution at a time. Otherwise
crashes may happen. Choose one, and stick to it!

Kari, does VirtualBox care about the flavor of Windows it's installed on (Home vs. Pro, etc.)? I know that Windows' XP Mode requires Pro or better, but that's a Windows thing, right? Requirements aside, would there be any appreciable difference in how VBox runs under Win 7 Home Premium vs. Win 7 Pro?
