Converting from XyWrite to MS Word

What would be the best approach to converting a 700K XyWrite
document to MS Word, with minimal loss of formatting, index,
and cross-reference information?
The document in question is a heavily indexed, heavily cross-
referenced software user manual.
Or would Ami or Describe be a better choice?
I'm going to hate giving up XyWrite's ASCII file format.
Darnit. :-(
(I use DOS, OS/2, Win 3.1, Win-95, and NT.)
