Re: vDosMac app?

I just saw reference to this in the latest Xy Digests. Can someone provide a link to download. I'm using Boxer, which is fine, but vDosMac.app sounds better.

Many thanks,

Jordan,

Thank you for using the installer. If there are no major technical
reasons to keep updating the Winter '15 branch (I have not seen any so
far), the version 2.01 will be the last one that sports the Winter '15
vDosPlus.exe. Beginning from version 3.00 only Autumn '16 vDosPlus.exe
will be used in the installers. You can, of course, manually install
another version of another branch (depending on the availability of such
versions) on top of the installation. This may entail minor
incompatibilities with the documentation (manual.txt, config.txt, etc.),
so you have to copy Wengier's readme.txt and refer to it for details and
fix things manually in config.txt.

Latest downloadable installers:
http://www.lexitec.fi/xywrite/vDosPlus300_Setup.zip(Autumn '16)
http://www.lexitec.fi/xywrite/vDosPlus201_Setup.zip(Winter '15)

Carl,

Would it be asking to much for you to list the steps to make the transition
from 2015 to Autumn?

It gets a little confusing.

Thanks very much for the updated U2, which I've installed.

Carl,

Weirdly, when I unzipped the new U2 zip file, the U2 itself had no date
showing in Explorer. This meant that when I sorted on the Date column, it
didn't show up at the top, with the other new stuff.

Harry

Or . . . should I just use Kari's installer?

Harry,

If you have used the installer before, it would make sense to use it to
update your install. If not, something may go wrong when running the
installer to update the earlier (manual?) install. An easy way to be on
the safe side is to make a copy of your current vDosPlus folder with a
different name and try the installer on this copied folder. That way, if
something goes wrong, you have your previous system intact, and you can
test the result of the installer separately. It is advisable to use the
restore settings option to save time fixing things in the new alternate
setup.

Yes, that is weird. The file itself is fine, though -- I just checked.

Alternatively, you could use the installer to install into a fresh
(empty) directory, and copy over any needed files (config, autoexec,
*.ttf) from the other directory.

Carl,

Sure. But I would first put config.txt into the empty directory and let
restore settings try to figure out your old settings, and update the
config.txt documentation in the process.

Subject: MD DD

Got tangled up in neurons trying to remember how to change color for
Defined text. Here's a section of settings.dfl:
; DD is number used to compute display of defined text
; Defined text does not display in this mode number
DF DD=46
I'm running the absolutely best Mac port for XY, crisp clean display,
prints with TY no questions asked, integrates also with Mac OS files,
so much faster than the setup I've used for years, DosBOX hosted.

It's Dr Mendelson's excellent vDosMac.app. Anybody need details there's a
couple of HTML docs in the package; I had about five days of tweaking then
got it. Perfect.

Anyway that line from settings, Defined text does not display in this mode
number, some algorithm integrating Define with the rest of the display, but
what's the math? How do I change it (in XyWrite natively)?

Thank you.

DD works on different math, as you discovered. I never decoded it, but you
can just experiment with different numbers, 0 -255, in SETTINGS.DFL. What I
did, and I recommend, is to define a block of text, try a DD, then re-load
Settings.dfl using a special keystroke to save and re-load of SETTINGS.DFL.
Instant feedback. Here is a pseudo-code version of what I use (gets the
cursor back to where it was):

nn=no,<,S,X,0,1,,,<,C,P,>,>,bx,s,a,q2,bx,l,o,a,d,
,S,e,t,t,i,n,g,s,.,d,f,l,q2,<,I,F,<,E,R,>,>,<,E,X,1,>,<,E,I,>,bx,j,m,p,
,<,P,V,0,1,>,q2,<,P,R, ,n,e,w, ,s,e,t,t,i,n,g,s,.,d,f,l,
,l,o,a,d,e,d,>,<,E,X,>,<,E,I,>

My actual code is part of a larger U2 frame, HBSA, that takes care of this,
saving and re-loading the U2, and regular saves--depending on the file
extension (.DFL, .U2, or not).

Harry
