Maybe it is just static electricity (on the motherboard).
Normally, when these things have happened, I have tried to:

1) deconnect the keyboard,
2) de-electrify the motherboard by taking the battery out.

Thanks, Kari. This sounds like a plausible explanation.
If the problem
comes back, I'll give it a try.
