Thank you very much for following up. You are absolutely right. There
was a zero-byte file named "DIR", from 2012, in the current directory.
(Have no idea how it got there, but I'm sure I'm the culprit.)
I've downloaded your latest release of start.exe, and it works just as
you report in your reply. Thanks so much for updating this essential
tool!
