Adventures with MAPPER on DOSBox-X version 0.83.20 on M1

I did some experiments to see if Mapper, in Ed's 
system, is actually 'taking' and it is, though it 
never swapped cntrl and command.

I have managed to disable the Mac ctrl key at last.
Únfortunately, though CMD now maps to mod_1, 
mod_1 now maps to NumPad *. Pressing cmd+s, for 
example, now yields *s. Before, it would just yield s.

How do I get out of this and fix the problems once for all?
