keyboard rate

I've had no trouble with xywrite for years. I use it as my basic wrting
instrument. But all of a sudden I'm getting a "new keyboard rate not
accepted" (that's an approximation of the message) and xywrite locks up. I
haven't touched the keyboard rate; it's 0.1--the default. I can only get
out by pushing my reset button to reboot. I use xy4.017 on an old 386 zeos.
I could use some help. Thanks.
