Testing printing with vDosXy 500

I was trying this out at home first (with Xy-4), prior to trying it out with Xy-3 at the office, which I expect will have some differences.  So far, I'm unsure about the results, and since I may be doing something wrong I'm posting this here.

My vDosXy500 install was default -- haven't really messed with customization or options.  That apparently means that GhostScript or GhostPCL is at play ?  (I won't even delve into the legal-size paper issue until I've already got basic functionality demonstrated.)  I should mention that I don't use Adobe; my installed PDF options are PDF-Xchange and Sumatra, their "portable" versions in this case.  I'm using a very simple, two-page document with just a couple of basic formatting deltas, for the initial test.

I loaded the PS.PR4 printer file.  At first, when trying to use this to print, I got an error -- which I should have recorded better -- which mentioned exceeding overflow file capacity.  (Huh ?)  It also locked up Xy-4, which remained locked up for awhile.  (This is in Win 7U x64, with 8 GB. of RAM.)  #LPT1.asc, #LPT1.pdf, and #LPT1.txt files were generated, in the vDosXy directory.  The #LPT1.pdf file showed as having 2700 bytes, but seemed to be empty.  Today I tried this again.  Not the same result though, leaving me kind of confused.  Xy4 still locked up for awhile, but this time I was given the option to open #LPT1.pdf in Sumatra PDF, in another window that came up.  From there, I had an option to print -- via standard Windows printer dialogs -- and chose a hardwired-USB Brother laser printer.  This printed acceptably, double-sided as I had selected.

So I'm thinking this might actually work, with some further guidance and fine-tuning.  It would be nicer if this was one-shot-seamless-from-XyWrite, without multiple steps jumping from program to program . . .  but I don't want to be asking for too much here.  Wireless printing may be a further wrinkle.  I want to make sure this whole deal is ready for Prime Time though, before I commit it to the office, and Xy-3.  Pitfalls to watch out for ?
