Re file

I wonder, could that C: drive possibly be compressed? I mean, a gig empty
seems a lot on a laptop of that vintage. Anybody know if Xy is able to
deal with compressed drives? I know it sometimes gets confused by ZIP
disks (I used to run XyDOS off a Zip drive, and was forever being told
there was no more room for temp. files there; Xy obviously thought it was
a 1.4 Mb floppy).

I don't know whether it could be affecting memory, and eveyone has his or
her own way of working (thank heavens), but... Have you considered
embedding those page format defaults (ts, OF, etc.) either 1) in a
template file, which you would MERGE into any new file you started; 2)
into a saveget (mine is F2-p) that you'd hit when starting a doc; or 3)
into a fishtank, callable by FISH? One assumes you have a good reason for
loading the various programs separately from the other savegets, but that
could be eating up memory too I should think.
