Footnote markers and footnotes.

Since I'm new to the list, I apologize if these are problems others have
discussed and solved earlier. But the're a couple of questions having
to do particularly with academic writing and its ilk in Xy4.

Problem I: how to extract footnotes or endnotes from a chapter, so they
can be saved and printed in a separate file, thus making it possible to
put all of them, from all the chapters, together at the end of a
manuscript (this seems to be the way some publishers still want them.)

I devised a neat program that did this for Xy3, but have had some
trouble converting it to Xy4. I now have a program that works OK, but
not great (there's still a certain amount of editing that needs to be
done to the finished version).

Problem II: in Xy4 how to tweak the printer file so that footnote
markers, appearing in the body of the text, print in a smaller font than
the text itself. For instance, if printing in 12 pt Roman (or Century
Schoolbook, which I happen to like), how do you get the footnote marker
(numeral) to print in 10 pt?

If you use one of the fonts XyWrite 4 comes with (Dutch or Swiss)
there's no problem. But if you want to use a different font, you're out
of luck.

Again, a problem fairly easily dealt with in Xy3 printer files, but what
about Xy4? TTG told me I couldn't do it. I bet someone else can, tho.

I'd be glad to send my programs, such as they are, to anyone who needs
them. I also, after a good deal of trial and error, figured out how to
fix the Xy4 printer file so that the footnotes themselves print without
a superscripted number, but rather with a number followed by a period
and a space.

37. Like this foonote, for instance; rather than

(superscrpt37)followed by footnote.
