Re: Windows 7, again

I was back there yesterday.  I've got good news and bad news.  The good news is that this idea seems to have worked (see attachment) re Xy and XP-Mode.  Whoever it was who said Lucida 22 -- well, there is no Lucida 22, so I went with the next closest thing, Lucida 24, and that does indeed seem to have *also* bumped up the screen size significantly.  It is showing as 80 x 25, with a screen buffer of 80 x 300.  I did not select the latter, it was automatic.  So, fullscreen is still not possible, but this screen size is a huge improvement, and would suffice.

The bad news is that the only three files that show up and are accessible, are the config files you see in the snapshot.  No communication at all with C: or any other partition.  That essentially renders it useless, again.  I'm not certain, but I think I was able to pull up files -- at least, 8.3 format files that weren't in longname directories or a few levels down -- prior to finessing this larger screen.  I had thought that the "enable integration" business was supposed to take care of this . . . ?  This may well be fixable, with some further tweaks.  With some further tips on hand for that, I will follow up on them when time permits.

I happen to have 64-bit Win-7 running on one of my desktop rigs.  One of the things I had in mind to try out was to install the XP-Mode + Xy (but Xy-4, since I don't really still use Xy-3, except when trying to offer my extremely limited support capability to someone who does) onto that machine.  This would allow me to see the extent to which any of these issues may be video-hardware specific, as well as to run a few other legacy apps that I've had to give up on.

This is from memory only (no time to go into the archives now), but I
believe it was Robert Holmgren who posted a workaround for the "cannot
go to full screen" problem which involved installing the video driver
for XP (if available) even when running Windows 7. This will result in
the loss of Aero and some other (superfluous?) functionality, but should
allow full-screen use of Xy. I tried it at the time and recall that it
worked, but since I rarely use full screen anyway, I went back to the
Win 7 driver when I changed video cards.

As for not being able to resize the Editor window, if you right-click on
the title bar, don't you get a menu that includes "Properties"? If you
do, you should be able to go to the "Font" tab and select a larger font,
which will make the window larger too.
