Re: XYshell and w2k

Dear Robert

Oh dear!

I had fogotten that I had ;*; ed out the GetXYOS line for startup.int in the W2k installation of
xy4 (there are separate installations on separate drives at present). I replaced it, imagining
that things would now work but there was no change. When I pressed the 'Shell to DOS' key I
obtained the same message as before. I then commanded va/nv @652 and found XyOS=DOS.
Following your suggestion below I then inserted the line to load W2K at SV652 and tried again ....

This time the 'shell to dos' key reported 'This program cannot be run in DOS mode'; ie exactly the
same problem I have found under W98se.

This time I found that the problem was that I was using the DOSONLY command in my W2k autoexec
startup file. I had experimented with it and forgotten to remove it. Having done so, the Shell to
DOS key worked, but I have the same problem with SW as I get with W98se. When I try to command
sw I get the message 'Process "*c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe*" not found'.

There is an additional, ancillary, problem. Using either the 'shell to dos' key or sw
invokes a dos screen running in 50 line mode. When I then switch back to XY4 my own screen
settings are screwed up. If the Dos screen invoked by XYshell was a 25 line screen, I suspect this
would not happen but I don't know how to set that as default under W2K, (if such a setting exists)
or otherwise how XYShell might be instructed to run such a screen.
