off topic, but just a bit--DOS dictionary

With listmember Joe Fisher's help, I'm now the proud
owner of an awesome little HP Omnibook 800CT. It's
running XyWrite just great, booting in DOS.

My question relates to an old DOS dictionary I'm
trying to run alongside my XyWrite--the Random House
Webster's Electronic Dictionary and Thesaurus. I own
the dictionary, but it's on 12 floppies. The FDD for
my Omnibook doesn't work. CD-ROM drive works--as well
as CF memory on a card--but no floppy. So...problem
was how to get the Random House dictionary into the
Omnibook.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a computer wiz.
Not a complete beginner, but not a wiz. Here's what I
tried: I pulled up a DOS window on my desktop PC,
which runs Win2K. Using that DOS window, I installed
the dictionary onto my desktop PC--everything went
into one directory-- c:\rhwedt.

I then burned a CD-ROM of the contents of that
directory.

I then copied the contents of that directory from CD
into a rhwedt directory I created on the Omnibook's C
drive.

There are two ways to start the dictionary--as a
standalone or as a TSR. In the past I've loaded it as
a TSR. The command to run it that way is not working
for me now. It does run, sort of, in standalone
mode--only problem is I can't close it..so have to
reboot. I'm fully aware that all this is most likely
related to the goofy way I tried to get the files onto
the Omnibook--i.e., as a copy of an installation
instead of a genuine installation. I know such a thing
would never come close to working in the Windows
world, but I thought I might be able to get away with
it in DOS...I've done it with my XyWrite installation
for years.

Anyone have any good ideas for getting around this
trouble?

Thanks very much.

Mark
