If you want diacritics without going through the menus, you can assign
them to any key you want. Look up the keyboard commands S1-S7 in the
Customization Guide. Assign them to any key combinations you want. For
instance, to assign the accute accent to ^*slash, open the keyboard
file, go to "TABLE=CTRL+SHIFT," then to key 53 (the slash) and enter
"S1". Once you have saved and reloaded the keyboard, when you press
^*slash and then the "e" key, you will get the "e" with the diacritic.
