I hope I don't hereby restart a dreary argument that may well have
spluttered on to a well-deserved end before my recentish arrival here,
but-- ASCII is a seven-bit code. If we must use "ASCII" for anything
above 127, then qualifying it with "US IBM" (or whatever) might reduce the
risk of confusion. Mac users (etc etc) have just as much right to call
their character sets ASCII as IBM-clown users have.
