BTW, just read your msg about resolving your modem hardware problem in favor of
IRQ5. IRQ5 is normally devoted to LPT2. This is topical because several
popular Fax programs use LPT2 as a way of sending faxes from another
application, like a word processor. You print (TYpe) a document to "LPT2" from
your WP, with result that a fax is despatched in background.

 Sooooo... you can lend IRQ5 to a COMn port if LPT2 isn't used; but down the
line, when you try to bring LPT2 into action, you gotta undo the COMn hardware
jumpers. Because it's easier to reconfigure COM ports than LPTs, which (as far
as I know) are fixed. LPT1 is IRQ7.
