Re: Footnote Size problem

Harry suggested that his problem might be solved by
    ci ///
"where WW is the 'wild string' and I use it twice (or more) to handle
footnotes longer than 80 bytes."

 >From a quick trial run, my impression is that this change will work only if
none of the footnotes include any other guillemets: for instance, in
    ci /Book title>/Book
title>/
when Harry's change command searches for a closing ">" it will think it's
found that ">" in "MD+IT".

I tried this in Expanded View and got the result I've just described. When
I tried it again in Normal View (i.e. the footnote shows as just a delta),
XyWin locked up and had to be three-fingered.

Perhaps the confusion between different ">"s explains the "wildcards must
be in same order on both sides of the change" message that Harry received.
(As a matter of fact, though, I've received that error message from time to
time ever since I switched from Xy3 to Xy4 and was permitted to put _any_
wildcard on the righthand side.)

I hope all this has been superseded, in any case, by Holmgren's posting,
which I haven't yet tried to decipher (I have bad luck with any kind of
encoded program, as in Holmgren's latest, though I'm sure the problem is
with me and not with the encoder).
