I think the association of a .xy data file has to be worked out carefully --
it must, I think launch the shortcut and not Xy directly. If you use a
Windows shorcut to a DOS program like XyWrite, Windows (95 at least) creates
a PIF file in which you can specify "close on exit."

I haven't tested this, but I did notice that I had several shortcuts to
XyWrite on my system, and they all seemed to be slightly different (window
size and position, for instance) until I edited them to be all the same.
