Xy2PDF with NotaBene for Windows (+general PDF info)

You can use Xy2PDF in NBWin as follows:

First, you need to install a generic Windows printer driver for Postscript.
This is an amazingly useful driver to have, because it permits you to make a
PDF (or PS) file from ANY file or screen displayed by ANY Windows program -- an
HTML webpage in your browser, for example, or, well, ANYTHING at all (MSWord
files, Excel sheets, images, whatever). Download the driver for NT+ (it says
it is for NT4 and Win2000, but it works fine with XP also) here:
 ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub2/printers/software/lj485en.exe
or for 9x here:
 ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub2/printers/software/lj477en.exe

Installation of CLJ(Color LaserJet)-4500 PS driver:
Run lj477en.exe or lj485en.exe, unpack to a temp dir. Start ==> Settings ==>
Printers ==> Add Printer. Choose local printer connected to File port. When
Windows asks which printer to install, choose Have Disk and select dir where
you unpacked printer files. So now if you pick this as your current printer
and you "print" to it, it will (almost) always ask where to put the result file
-- you never need to manually tell the Print Setup dialog that you're printing
to a file, because the initial setup already will insist on this, and there
will be a popup window that asks for a file name (exception: NBWin takes care
of this detail automatically if you follow instructions below). If you want to
make a PDF with another Windows (not DOS) program, just print to the CLJ-4500PS
"printer", supplying when asked a d:\path\filename.PS (the EXTension ".PS" is
NECESSARY!). Then launch GSView, open the *.PS file you just created, and
click File ==> Convert, select the "pdfwrite" device, resolution 600, fixed
page size, and click "OK" -- GSView solicits a *.PDF target filename, and
you're Done.

Making a PDF with NBWin and U2 frame Xy2DPF:
You need the U2 v119 code refresh dated today, 9 July 2006:

Ensure that Xy2PDF works under Xy4, i.e. that you have all the wrinkles ironed
out. And, duh, make sure that the Ghostscript entries in NBWin's copy of REG
are correct. Then, under NBWin: Click File==>Print, highlight the CLJ-4500PS
driver in the "Printer" drop-down box, and "Reselect" it as your printer, then
click "Close". Run frame Xy2PDF normally. NB sells pdfFactory as an NB
add-on, but this is 100% free, and works even better.
