Re: Editing Footnotes

That's funny, in msg# 10097 you said "this is a bug". I assumed you were
referring to the fact that FM commands aren't applied on screen, because that
was my complaint. Maybe I misunderstood? Elsewhere (#10105) you elaborate
"During editing, I think you would agree that if we had to calculate the IP,
tabs, SZ etc., the process would be greatly slowed." I think that's hyperbole.
Greatly slowed? After all, every window independently calculates and reflects,
on-screen, in Draft mode, the "IP, tabs, SZ etc." that obtain in that window.
It's slower to display than eXPanded mode (as I think you would agree). But
why should a "Command Window" be more difficult, or slower, to calculate than
any other window that displays in Draft mode? Indeed, I'd suppose that EDITOR
would actually find it *easier* to apply the formatting commands contained in a
single, concise FM command, than in guillemets scattered throughout a large
document. I mean, you might as well say "we're not going to display Draft mode
on-screen because it's slower." So I guess my response is that speed need not
be unusually compromised, nor should speed be the main concern. Writer
convenience/flexibility should be the main concern. We can toggle into XP if
we just want speed; as things stand now, bread-and-water is all XyWrite gives
us anyway in Footnotes.
