Column Table Extra Space

I use XyWin 4.12 under Windows 3.1. I am drafting a document which
contains a column table with standard borders around and between the
column entries. The only other contents of the document are a running
header (with tabbed headings for the columns) and a running footer.

My problem is that for some unaccountable reason the table on the
first page starts slightly more than a half inch (17/32") lower on
the page (a) than it should and (b) than it does on subsequent pages.

I have a vague recollection that this blank space has unaccountably
appeared in other XyWrite column tables.

Is there any fix for this problem?
